The Empathy Solution

The empathy solution transforms education and school discipline by offering educators a way to see children as developing humans with complicated potentials. In this paradigm, bad behavior is not purposeful, it’s not a moral failing, and it does not demand punishment. Rather, behavior is a way of communicating about unmet needs or missing skills, and the appropriate response is to help nurture the better angels of children’s nature and give them the skills and tools they need. This approach results in improved learning, better mental health, less school violence, and less incarceration. Empathy-based best practices at the individual level build equity and justice at the societal level.
